Sally was a beautiful but vain girl. So naturally, her prized possession was the intricately carved mirror that was hanging on her wall. She loved the mirror because it was able to reflect her lovely and gorgeous face.
However, one fine day, Sally forgot to close her window when she left house. Unfortunately, a gust of wind took the mirror off the wall and it came crashing onto the floor. The wooden frame was left intact, but the mirror was broken into million pieces.
When Sally returned home, looking at the mess in front of her, she was flabbergasted and her heart lurched painfully in her chest. However, she told herself, "There is no point crying over spilled milk. It is never too late to make things right."
Sally was determined; she thought that if she put in enough effort, everything would pay off. So, she decided to do the impossible - piece the whole mirror back together. Day by day, piece by piece, Sally had finally completed putting the mirror back together! Although both her hands were filled with cuts, she was so glad that she could not help rejoicing.
Carefully, she hung the mirror back on the wall. However to her dismay, there were cracks all over the mirror and her reflection was slightly distorted. It was no longer the same anymore.
Staring at the mirror and the cuts and scars on her hands, she wondered why she went through all the hurt and pain. Was it worth it?
Just as she was thinking and pondering about the question, the swaying and unstable mirror fell to the ground all over again. It was an answer to her question/doubt. It was a sign.
With tears in her eyes, Sally felt really helpless. But all she could do now, was to turn and walk away. Because deep down, she knew, no matter how much pain she went through or how much she sacrificed, she would never be able to fix that mirror.
"THE GAME - Some things, you can't change. They stay broken. The trick is to live with the pieces. Avoid them like glass shards. After awhile, you will get used to it. You will know where not to step. One day, you may even sweep them away. But they stay broken. That's the rule of the game."
